Actress Jaime King’s ex-husband, Kyle Newman, has returned to court seeking legal protection for their two children.
On October 23, 2024, Kyle filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court, requesting both a restraining order against Jaime and sole physical custody of their sons, James Knight and Leo Thames, who are currently living with their mother.
Kyle’s court documents, exclusively obtained by In Touch magazine, indicate that this urgent legal action stems from the actress’ severe struggles with drug and alcohol addiction. He requested the court to issue a restraining order that would restrict her from entering his home, accessing their children, and visiting his workplace. In the paperwork, he stated,
“The children are currently in danger when in their mother’s care. Jaime King is suffering from drug and alcohol addiction and is emotionally abusing and neglecting our children; placing them in danger and exposing them to many disturbing people and situations…”
Newman also requested that if he is granted sole custody, King should receive only limited visitation rights, which would allow her to see the children only in the presence of a professional to monitor their interactions. In his declaration, he explained his reasoning for this request, stating,
“[Jamie] has a history of severe drug and alcohol abuse and has had a major relapse endangering the safety and wellbeing of our children in her custodial care”.
Kyle Newman Reveals Horrific Abuse Suffered By His Sons Under Jaime King’s Custody
Kyle recounted a recent visit to the Black Summer star’s home during his scheduled time with their children, where he found her passed out after a night of heavy partying, surrounded by several unfamiliar guests.
Concerned for their safety, he immediately removed his sons from the property and took them to his home. In his documents, he described the traumatic experiences Leo and James have endured while living with their mother, stating,
“Our children are in grave danger if Jaime is to resume custody, as she continues to drive them while wholly under the influence, have strange men show up to the house and sends them to sleep in the boys rooms and the children are so petrified that… they don’t [want] to go back to their mother’s house”.
The filmmaker concluded his plea with heartfelt concerns for his ex-wife, emphasizing his desire for her to seek serious help and recover for the sake of their children. The trial for this petition is still pending, as no judge has issued a ruling on the matter yet.
Jaime King and Kyle Newman first met on the set of the film Fanboys. They began dating soon after and were married in 2007 in Los Angeles.
After 15 years of marriage, Jaime filed for divorce in May 2020. Their bitter legal battle over the custody of their sons lasted nearly four years before they finally finalized their divorce in May 2024.
As Kyle Newman seeks to protect his children, the situation underscores the pressing need for accountability and support for those struggling with addiction. The unfolding legal proceedings will determine the best path forward for their family during this tumultuous time.
