Actor Ben Affleck has finally opened up about his recent divorce from Jennifer Lopez.
In an exclusive cover interview with GQ magazine for their April 2025 issue, the Gone Girl star reflected on the factors that contributed to their split.
Ben hinted that their conflicting approaches to fame played a significant role in their marital struggles. While J.Lo thrives in the public eye, he prefers a more private life, an imbalance that seemingly created tension. He explained,
“Lopez has handled celebrity more adeptly and more adroitly than I have. My temperament is to be a little bit more reserved and private than hers. Part of it was, okay, if I’m going to participate in this, I want to try to do it in an honest way”.
Addressing how their differing views on privacy impacted their relationship, Affleck admitted that navigating those differences was challenging. He shared,
“As happens in relationships, you don’t always have the same attitude towards these things. And so I thought, Oh, this is interesting because how do you reconcile that? Because I love and support this person. I believe in them. They’re great. I want people to see that”.

Dismissing any rumors of drama, he emphasized that their divorce wasn’t the result of a scandal or betrayal. He explained,
“There’s a tendency to look at breakups and want to identify root causes or something. But honestly, the truth is much more than probably people would believe. There’s no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue… I hope I was clear that really [Lopez] is somebody I have a lot of respect for”.
Just days before Ben’s candid revelation, an anonymous insider close to the former couple subtly shed light on the reasons behind their split. The source also hinted that J.Lo is ready to reenter the dating scene and has a clear vision of what she wants in her next partner. The insider shared,
“[She] wants a man who has nothing to do with Hollywood. Believe it or not, Jennifer says she wants a regular Joe, a businessman or a blue-collar guy who’s secure in himself. A guy who is strong in his convictions, someone who will make her feel special, safe and secure”.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s history dates back to 2002 when they first met on the set of Gigli and began dating shortly after. They got engaged later that year but ultimately called off their wedding and broke up in 2004.
