Actor Dax Shepard recently made a surprising revelation about the early days of his love story with wife Kristen Bell, reflecting on how their relationship began.
During the February 18 episode of Finding Your Roots, the Parenthood alum opened up about his nearly two-decade-long journey with Bell, which started with their first meeting in 2007.
Recalling their initial encounter, Dax revealed that he had just gone through a tough breakup and he wasn’t exactly in the best mindset to notice any sparks with Kristen. Sharing a humorous anecdote from that day, he said,
“I had broken up with a woman that morning… and I do remember Kristen was there because she was telling this story about getting a 20% off Bed, Bath & Beyond coupon in the mail and how ecstatic she was about that. I remember thinking this is pretty adorable that this movie star is this excited about 20% off”.
However, despite the charm of the moment, it wasn’t love at first sight for the pair. Shepard admitted that his recent breakup kept him from forming an instant connection with the Nobody Wants This star. He explained,
“I was not in the market for anything. I was, in fact, quite distracted by the breakup… There was no real connection between us at that first meeting”.

A week after their first meeting, fate brought them together again at a hockey game in Los Angeles. The actor recounted how an unexpected conversation made him see Bell in a completely new light, igniting a bond that would last a lifetime. He shared,
“I was with a friend at halftime… and he started talking to her, they know each other… And then we started talking and I thought, how did I miss this? This is the most charismatic human I’ve ever met in my life. And we started talking, talking, talking and we have never stopped talking or not been together for almost 17 years now”.

When asked by host Will Marfuggi about the secret to their thriving marriage, Bell gave a subtly unconventional response, attributing it to their mutual trust and respect. She said,
