Actress Halle Bailey is done playing nice, as she recently broke her silence and took a bold stand for herself.
On May 13, 2025, the Little Mermaid star filed for a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend and the father of her child, rapper DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry, in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
In the documents, she detailed multiple allegations of abuse, with some incidents dating back to January 2025. In a powerful personal statement attached to her filing, she wrote,
“I realize that there is no placating Darryl. I cannot allow this abuse any longer. Whenever he wishes to cause upset, he starts badmouthing me to his several millions of fans”.
The ex-couple have also been locked in an ongoing custody battle over their 2-year-old son, Halo, with no official agreement in sight.
Addressing the situation, Halle pushed back against DDG’s public narrative, saying,
“He claims I am withholding our son and that I am with other men. As a result, I then receive threats and hate on social media… He goes ‘live’ ranting about me and alleges that I am keeping Halo from him. This is false. I have requested a set schedule, which he refuses”.
Court Grants Halle Restraining Order, DDG To Stay Away From Their Son
The restraining order request included photographic evidence of the alleged abuse, featuring images of a chipped front tooth and a large bruise on Halle’s bicep.
According to her declaration, The Color Purple star had also filed a police report with the Los Angeles Police Department in March 2025.
She claimed DDG forced his way into her home after she informed him that both she and Halo were sick and that their son couldn’t leave the house. He allegedly began screaming profanities, damaged her Ring camera, and even tried to take Halo without her consent.
The same day as her filing, Bailey was granted a temporary restraining order that offers protection for both her and their young son.
The order requires the Twitch streamer to stay at least 100 yards away from the actress and Halo at all times, including at Halo’s school and even around Bailey’s vehicle.
As of now, DDG has not publicly responded to the legal decision.
Halle Bailey and DDG called it quits in October 2024 after two and a half years together. But what first seemed like a quiet, mutual breakup took a messy turn just five months later.
In March 2025, DDG went live on YouTube and accused Halle of keeping their son away from him. He even threatened legal action against her, saying,
“I don’t want to go to court. It’s going to get extremely messy and it doesn’t have to happen. I think it’s in her best interest to not want to go to court either… We go to court, the judge is going to give me some time. And when I get the time, I’m gonna do whatever I want with my son”.
Fans Harshly Slam Halle’s Move, DDG Gains Online Support
The online community was quick to react to Bailey’s latest legal move, with many expressing doubt and disapproval. Several social media users sided with DDG, especially in light of him being separated from his young son. Some such comments read,
“I don’t think she is as innocent as everyone thinks”.
“I don’t know why, but I can’t stand her, my gut/women’s intuition tells me she’s the problem”.
“She doesn’t want that man to be a parent”.
“Are we really going to allow this to keep happening on to men????”
“It’s sad… to take that boy from his Dad, that’s crazy”.
“Nobody believes her”.
“Im pretty sure it’s a way to keep halo away from his dad”.
“There’s 2 sides to this story. An angry woman will do anything to keep the father from seeing their child”.
As the drama unfolds both in court and online, and with a restraining order now in place, this custody battle is far from over.
