On May 9, 2024, actress Megan Mullally opened up about her decision to be childfree even after two decades of marriage to Nick Offerman. In an hour-long episode of the podcast Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald, she explained the reasoning behind her choice.

Megan Mullally Explains Why She Didn’t Have Kids

Speaking to host Heather McDonald, Megan addressed her child-free lifestyle and said,

“I used to say it was the last taboo to not have children because nobody does it – nobody did it certainly from my generation. And now it’s getting more and more common. If you’re in a place financially where you can’t afford to have your own life… then that could make you a lot more resentful”.

This statement, coming from someone who doesn’t have children herself, might lead some to believe Megan dislikes them altogether. However, she quickly clarified,

“I sound like an anti-children but I am not… I just never had an organic burning desire to have children”.

The Will & Grace star further added,

“I met Nick when I was 41… I was a little late, it was a little late for me in the day to have kids although, I have to say we did try kind of the old-fashioned way for a year but it wasn’t meant to be…”

Megan Mullally met her husband Nick Offerman back in 2000, while working together on a theatrical play called The Berlin Circle. The couple immediately hit it off and soon started dating. They got engaged in 2002 and tied the knot in September 2003.

Fans React Positively to Megan’s Discussion on Parenthood

Fans showed their positive support for Megan’s choice to be child-free. One comment on the podcast episode read,

“I’m child-free by choice and really appreciate this conversation!”

    Another supportive comment read,

“I always thought it was sad if people didn’t have kids. After I had kids I realized how tough it was and if you don’t want kids it is best not to have them…”

Megan Mullally’s openness about her child-free choice normalizes the decision for others, proving happiness comes in many forms, with or without children.
