Over a year later, Joe Alwyn finally addresses his infamous breakup from pop icon Taylor Swift. In an interview published on June 15, 2024, he shares his side of the story and how the breakup affected him. 

While speaking to Josh Arnold of The Sunday Times Style, Alwyn recalled the end of his six years long relationship with Swift. He shared,

“I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years. That is a hard thing to navigate”. 

Joe further opened up about the intense media scrutiny following his split from Taylor. He also claims that it doesn’t capture the complete narrative of what exactly happened between the two. He added,

“… Tabloids, social media, press… dissected, speculated on, pulled things out of shape beyond recognition. And the truth is… there is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said. I have made my peace with that”.

On being asked about the cause of the split, Alwyn remained tight-lipped, reiterating his desire for privacy. He brushed off media speculation, stating that after a year, he sees no reason to break his silence and share personal details. The Favorite star said,

“It was never something to commodify, and I see no reason to change that now… this is also a little over a year ago now”. 

 Joe Alwyn and Taylor Swift began dating in May 2017, going public with their relationship a year later in May 2018. Their relationship was mostly private but Alwyn was frequently spotted supporting his girlfriend on her concerts worldwide. However, after six years of dating, Joe and Taylor split in April 2023 due to undisclosed reasons.
