Hollywood icon Kate Hudson is in no rush to walk down the aisle with her longtime love, Danny Fujikawa.
During a candid appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show podcast on March 3, 2025, Kate opened up about her relationship with Danny and why wedding bells are still on hold.
The couple, who got engaged in September 2021, have yet to kick off any wedding plans. Curious about the delay, host Drew asked Hudson directly why the two haven’t tied the knot yet. To this, the actress replied,
“I like the idea of being engaged forever. I like the concept of freedom. The contractual aspect of marriage is tough for me. [After all] I was raised by Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, who never signed the contract—and they’ve been engaged since I was 7”.
Moreover, beyond her views on marriage, the How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days star also revealed a more practical reason, admitting that the thought of organizing a lavish wedding just doesn’t excite her. She said,
“I just don’t have the same, oh, my god, I’m gonna get married and I can’t wait for the party kind of energy. It’s the opposite. I’m like, ok, I have to plan it and then it’s going to cost so much money”.
Kate Hudson And Danny Fujikawa Step Out For Rare Red Carpet Date Night
Just days before her candid podcast confession, Kate and Danny, who tend to keep their relationship out of the spotlight, enjoyed a rare and glamorous night out together.
On February 13, 2025, the lovebirds attended the Los Angeles premiere of Kate’s latest Netflix series, Running Point, held at the iconic Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
A brief paparazzi-captured video showed the couple posing for photographers, standing side by side with one arm wrapped around each other. In an adorable gesture, they even shared a gentle kiss on the carpet before Fujikawa stepped aside, giving his leading lady the moment to shine solo during her photoshoot.
Moreover, since the couple’s date night took place just one day before Valentine’s Day, Kate teased a possible surprise from her fiancé during an exclusive red carpet interview with Extra TV, though she kept the details vague. She shared,
“We’ll see. I don’t know. I love Valentine’s Day. We kind of met around this time—eight years ago now. It’s like, wow, we’ve been together for eight years. It’s been going really fast”.
Kate Hudson and Danny Fujikawa first crossed paths in the early 2000s through mutual friends. Although they stayed in touch sporadically for over a decade, their platonic bond eventually blossomed into a romantic relationship in December 2016.
The couple went public with their romance nearly a year later, in late 2017. Together, they also share their daughter, Rani Rose.

Through low-key date nights and a laid-back approach to marriage, Kate and Danny prove that love doesn’t need a timeline.
Looks like, whether or not they ever say ‘I do’, they’re already living their happily ever after.
